CSIR - Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine celebrates 76th Foundation Day of CSIR

CSIR-IIIM celebrates its 76th foundation day on 26th September, 2018. The celebrations, in this connection, were held at IIIM auditorium and were largely attended by eminent scientists, faculty members of research & educational institutions, entrepreneurs, invited dignitaries, guests, members of Press and staff members of CSIR-IIIM.

Dr Rajesh S Gokhale, former Director, CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB) and Staff Scientist, National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi was the Chief Guest on the occasion. To celebrate the CSIR Foundation day, IIIM organized 2-day event at the main campus. On the first day of the programme, IIIM and VIBHA jointly organized a pre-cursor event, in which the institute observed ‘Open-Day’ for students wherein Quiz, Extempore and Science Models Competitions for the students of 9th to 12th class were organized. An impressive exhibition was also held in which aromatic and medicinal products developed by CSIR-IIIM were put on display.

On 2nd day, a simple and impressive function was organized in the IIIM auditorium to celebrate the CSIR Foundation Day. Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director IIIM in his welcome address introduced the Chief Guest to the audiences and described him as distinguished scientist of international repute who led interdisciplinary initiatives that have spawned new avenues in the area of functional genomics research and healthcare. Dr Ram lauded the scientific contributions of Dr Gokhale which have earned him international recognition in understanding tuberculosis pathogenesis, with a focus to understand complex cell envelope coat of mycobacterium – a unique feature of this pathogen.

Dr Rajesh Gokhale delivered the CSIR foundation day lecture entitled, ‘Renewing the romance in the love-lost marriage: Bioentrepreneurship in India’. While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gokhale said that CSIR is a frontier R&D organization of the nation, which owes much responsibility of the science policy in research and education.

On the occasion, the Chief Guest also distributed prizes for different activities conducted as part of Foundation Day celebrations.
