Hon'ble Vice-President Sh. M. Venkaiah Naidu visits IIIM Jammu

Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu visited CSIR-IIIM Jammu on 28th May, 2018. On his arrival, he addressed the scientists, scholar, technical staff of the Institute and eminent citizens of Jammu. Governor  N N  Vohra, Union Minister Dr  Jitendra Singh,  Deputy Chief Minister of J&K,  Kavinder Gupta, Minister for Science and Technology, J&K,  Sajad Gani Lone, Minister for Higher Education, J&K, Imran Raza Ansari and others were present on the occasion.


The Vice President, in his speech, appreciated the efforts of CSIR-IIIM, Jammu in the scientific development of the country and said, “Science has played a major role in the growth of our great nation and the achievements in the areas of affordable medicine, food security, milk production, space, atomic energy and Information Technology, among others, are a testimony to this fact”. Applauding IIIM for playing a major role in supporting the drug regulatory system of the country, he asked scientists here to develop drugs to cure diabetes and prevent diseases like malaria, chikungunya and dengue.

The vice president said he was glad to know that the institute has started a Technology Business Incubator with the objective of creating jobs for the youngsters of the state. He said it was heartening to know that institute has a very robust drug pipeline in the areas of Oncology, Arthritis, Tuberculosis, Alzheimer’s and Peptic ulcer.
The Vice President, along with other dignitaries, took round of the Institute, inspected the testing labs and evinced keen interest in the exhibition of medicinal and aromatic preparations by the scientists of the institute and being used by various companies for commercial production.

Earlier, Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director IIIM, Jammu, made a detailed PowerPoint presentation and described the major research domains of the institute.
