Plant Secondary Metabolism, Functional Genomics, Post-transcriptional regulation.

My lab currently works on elucidating the secondary metabolic pathways in important medicinal plants (such as Coleus forksohlii and Dysoxylum binectariferum), with a long term objective of producing some of these metabolites in simpler organisms such as yeast.
Further, functions of many such secondary metabolites are not well established. We are also trying to understand the function of these metabolites in plants as well as their regulation.
We are also interested in understanding the impact of resident microflora of plants (endophytes & epiphytes) on production/accumulation of secondary metabolites.
My earlier work focused on understanding the inter-relationship between various gene silencing mechanisms in the model Drosophila melanogaster.
